Cowlitz Clean Waters Calendar Contest

2024 Student Calendar Contest Focusing on Solutions to Stormwater Pollution

Cowlitz Clean Waters, a local public education campaign targeting stormwater pollution, is pleased to announce the winners of its annual calendar contest for middle school students 
 (grades 6-8) within Cowlitz County. 

Students were encouraged to create artwork or write a haiku or short poem depicting ways to prevent stormwater pollution and to keep our Cowlitz County waters clean. This year’s theme was lawn & yard care. The following students’ submissions were selected and are featured in the 2024 Solutions to Stormwater Pollution calendar, which is now available at local public libraries throughout Cowlitz County as well as at Kelso and Longview city halls:

These students will be recognized and honored at an award ceremony to be held at Kelso City Hall on Wednesday, February 21 at 5:00 p.m. in the Kelso City Hall council chambers.

Cowlitz Clean Waters is a collaborative initiative of the City of Kelso, City of Longview, Cowlitz County, Consolidated Drainage Improvement District #1 (CDID #1), Kelso School District, Longview School District, Washington State University (WSU) Cowlitz County Extension and the Lower Columbia College.

This partnership is committed to developing a public information and education campaign to help inform the Lower Columbia region about the impacts of stormwater runoff on our local waterways and to affect behavior changes and water quality improvements in our communities.
