[ARCHIVED] From the Mayor’s Desk for the month of January 2022!

Mary Alice Wallis

Hello and Happy New Year Longview,
Two little words gave me pause one afternoon while visiting the Longview post office. A mail clerk offered a little boy a candy cane, and the boy, looking up at his mother for approval, readily accepted. Without a prompt from anyone, the young child looked up at the clerk and said, "Thank you." How far such simple words can go.

Many times opportunities are missed to express gratitude; but a statement of gratitude is not a trend, is not an old fashioned or outdated phrase, or empty words. Gratitude comes from a pure place inside the giver.

I'd like to take this time to express my gratitude to the Longview City Council for reappointing me as your Mayor for Longview for the next two years. There is much personal satisfaction in working alongside sharp dedicated individuals, who strive for excellence. Much work has been accomplished, and we have much work to do as a City Council, but I am confident in the direction ahead. Thank you City Council for believing in me, and for the opportunity to lead at this time. Thank you to the City of Longview departments and especially to City Manager Kurt Sacha for your leadership, and excellent planning, preparation, and foresight for our city.

The future of Longview is bright! Here are some of the great acknowledgements to look forward to in 2022:

New voices added to the Longview City Council team: congratulations to City Councilors Angie Wean and Spencer Boudreau.

New housing opportunities at Mt Solo Estates Phase 2 and more to come!

46 acres, comprising 15 business lots available at Longview Business Park on Beech Street.

Upgrades at Lake Sacajawea Park, Hemlock Plaza, and Martins Dock.

American Recovery Plan Act infrastructure and development opportunities throughout the city.

May we all continue to find joy in each day, be kind toward one another, and let 2022 be the year of gratitude!

 Blessings always,

 Mayor MaryAlice Wallis
