Longview Public Library presents a “Make Your Own Zine” workshop series

Tuesday, February 7, 2023

In this hands-on workshop series, zine-maker Sarah “Shay” Mirk will share a giant pile of Zines as inspiration, then lead participants through the process of folding a Zine out of a sheet of paper. We will write and draw a Zine based on a fun prompt. No skills or tools necessary, just bring your desire to be creative.

Join us on Monday February 7, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. in the
Magazine Reading Room at the Longview Public Library for these fun filled creative workshops.

About Zines:
A Zine is a multi-page publication made for passion, not profit. It comes from the word
“Magazine” and is pronounced “zeen”. You can make Zines about anything, the creative format includes one sheet of paper, a pen, and your creativity. Visit the Washington State Archives to find inspiration for your Zine creation here: http://www.washingtoncenterforthebook.org/wszc/
About Sarah “Shay” Mirk:
Sarah “Shay” Mirk (she/they) is a graphic journalist, editor, and teacher. She is the author of
Guantanamo Voices, an illustrated oral history of Guantanamo Bay prison, which Kirkus called “extradinary… an eye-opening, damning indictment of one of America’s worst trespasses.” She is also a zine-maker and illustrator whose comics have been featured in The Nib, The New Yorker, Bitch, and NPR.
