Credits may be given for water leaks as long as they are not caused by faucets left running, toilet leaks, lawn or garden watering, and as long as they are promptly reported (not more than 60 days) with appropriate documentation.
Adjustments may be requested on the Water Leak Credit Request Form (PDF).
Use Your Water Meter to Check for Leaks
Water meters can be used to detect a leak in your water system. Just follow these simple steps:
- Locate your water meter. It is usually found in a meter box in a small concrete vault near the street or the alley.
- Turn off all faucets in and around the home.
- Check the meter reading. Meters read straight across like the odometer on a car.
- Wait 15 minutes.
- Read your meter again. If the reading has changed, you have a leak that needs immediate attention.
