City of Longview, Cowlitz PUD, and Beacon Hill Sewer District present:
Mint Farm Groundwater Supply Open House
Customers of the City of Longview and Cowlitz PUD/Beacon Hill Sewer District water systems are invited to learn about the proposed new Mint Farm Industrial Park groundwater supply for our drinking water at an open house on Thursday, April 16, from Noon to 8 p.m. at the Cowlitz County Expo Center, 1900 7th Ave. in Longview.
The open house will guide visitors of all ages through several informational, hands-on stations about raw water sources, locations of wells, the geology of “aquifers,” and water quality testing. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions and voice their concerns. During the open house, presenters will be gathering historical information regarding any known activities and contaminant spills at or near the well sites.
Presentations averaging 15-20 minutes will be given every two hours to provide an overview of the groundwater testing program and environmental risk assessment. Presentations will begin at Noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m., followed by a question and answer period. The public is invited to come at anytime during the open house and speak with project staff regarding their concerns. Comment sheets will be available for concerns, questions, and feedback.
Additional exhibits will focus on current challenges with our drinking water, including a display showing an eroded pump impeller, photos of sediment in filter plant basins, and more from the existing Regional Water Treatment Plant. Children can explore an interactive stormwater landscape display and take home water activity books. For questions about the event, please call 442-5200.
