The public is invited to a reception at the library’s Koth Gallery to honor Leon Lowman on March 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Lowman, chosen to be the 2009 Hans Schaufus Featured Artist, exemplifies an artist who has made a genuine commitment to art and who continually seeks new plateaus. His work today is a reflection of his lifelong passion for surfing spent in, on, and around the waters of the world. Through acrylic paint, collage, and canvas, brilliant colors come alive in pieces of art that often are as large as the ocean. Lowman’s work will be on display at the Longview Public Library’s Koth Gallery through March 11.
Hans Schaufus, currently a retired Longview Public Library employee, managed the Koth Gallery for many years and was instrumental in establishing regular exhibits of quality artists in the gallery. In 2007, the Library Foundation set aside funds to promote an annual featured artist and to allow purchase of one of his or her artworks to add to the library’s permanent collection. The annual show is dedicated to Hans.
