2009/01/27 - Joint City of Longview and Cowlitz County Town Hall Meeting Set

Date: 2009/01/27

Phone: 360.442.5221

Kelso, WA – The recent unusual weather events, where snow accumulations were followed by heavy rains, have caused land movement in an area of Longview south of Lone Oak Road and west of the Cedar Gates Road neighborhood.  Currently, the affected area is limited to land south of the residences on Lone Oak Road, where evidence of ground cracks and soil movement has recently been observed.

Based on preliminary investigations of the affected area, neither City nor County officials believe there is any evidence of immediate danger to adjacent residential structures at this time.  However, monitoring of the affected area is warranted and will be ongoing.
Citizens living adjacent to the affected area have been asked to report any observed changes in landscape or structures that might be related to continued or new land movement.
A town hall meeting is planned to provide information to concerned citizens and allow opportunity for questions.
