Currently, there is a waiting list of adults hoping to improve their skills in reading, English, GED preparation, and citizenship interview preparation. Could you be a tutor for one of them? Project READ at the Longview Public Library is eagerly accepting applications from caring, accepting, and patient volunteers willing to share at least two hours a week to help another adult gain or improve skills in reading, English conversation, writing, basic math, or to prepare for the GED or citizenship exam.
Project READ matches volunteer tutors with adult learners to work in one-on-one or small group settings. Sessions are typically twice a week for one hour. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment, but most choose to stay longer!
The library’s Project READ staff provides resources, direction, tutor training and ongoing support. The next formal training consisting of 10 hours will take place January 26, 29, and February 2, 5, 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. You will need to register for the training and fill out an official application. Applications can be obtained from Elizabeth Partridge in the Longview Public Library.
Share your love of learning. Make a difference. Change a life. Become a mentor. Become a volunteer tutor at Project READ.
For more information about the program or the training sessions, contact Elizabeth Partridge in the Project READ Corner of the Longview Public Library, or call 442.5321.
