Open House on future land uses for the Highlands Neighborhood and the west side of Oregon Way
3/29/2017 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
The City of Longview is updating its Comprehensive Plan. This plan provides City policy on how land will be used in the future. One of the emphasis areas for the update is the Highlands Neighborhood and the west side of Oregon Way. Much of the Highlands Neighborhood is classified for high density residential and office uses. The front half block on the west side of Oregon Way is classified for Community Commercial.
The City is asking residents and property owners what they believe the future use of the area should be. Although the Highlands Neighborhood has had a high density residential classification for many years, there has not been much conversion from single-family homes to apartment buildings. The west side of Oregon Way has been classified for commercial use for about 10 years and has been zoned for that use for 5 years. So far, there has not been much interest in converting the residential uses to commercial uses along that street frontage. The City needs to re-examine whether these land use classifications are the best use for those areas.
The City is inviting neighboring property owners, tenants, and the public to attend an open house to learn more about the Comprehensive Plan update for this area and to provide comments. The open house will be held on Wednesday, March 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Helens Elementary School cafeteria located at 431 27th Avenue, Longview, WA.
